Facial Veins
FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
Can anything be done to get rid of facial veins?
Yes. We have treatments available which improve the appearance of facial veins. Unfortunately, there are no creams that can get rid of facial veins. However, use of a daily sunscreen may prevent their formation.
How does the treatment work?
We use laser- or light-based systems to produce energy in the form of heat. This heat is is absorbed by the red blood cell, and causes destruction of the vessel wall.
How many treatments does it take?
The number of treatments depends on the severity of the facial veins but generally one treatment will give substantial improvement. Second and third treatments are often necessary for maximum improvement, usually separated by 3 to 4 weeks.
Does the laser hurt?
Most patients describe the sensation as a rubber band snapping against the skin, or a stinging sensation. It is very tolerable, however.
What will I look like after the laser treatment?
Usually only some redness remains after a treatment; however, sometimes there is a little swelling with some crusting or scab formation that may occur and these are usually healed within a week. Most patients who have this procedure performed do not need to take off time from their work schedule.
Are there any side effects to the treatment?
After the treated areas have healed, there is a low incidence of hyperpigmentation or brownish discoloration that can occur at the laser sites. This will usually fade with time or can be treated with bleaching creams or gels.
Are there any other ways to treat facial veins?
The most effective and efficient way to treat facial veins is to use either a laser-based or light-based system.
