Varicose Veins

We have been treating small, unsightly spider leg veins for over 15 years, but in the last few years have begun to include the treatment of larger varicose veins as well. For those of you unfamiliar with this technique, it is known as "sclerotherapy."

Sclerotherapy involves the careful injection of a special solution into the vein. The solution then acts to eliminate the unsightly blood vessel. Over time, the veins will disappear or fade, resulting in noticeable improvement. Usually, several treatments are necessary to destroy the entire network.

After the injections are completed, the patient may be advised to wear compression stockings for a while. Any side effects of sclerotherapy are usually minimal and short-lived.

The treatment of larger varicose veins requires a consultation with the doctor and non-invasive special testing before treatment can be performed. This is necessary to determine if the patient is a good candidate for this procedure. The majority of patients do qualify for this procedure.

Thus, the advantages of this procedure are:

  • totally outpatient procedure
  • replaces alternative vein surgery
  • immediate return to work or other activities after the procedure
  • few treatments necessary
  • improvement seen in only a few weeks
